Hardware test for mac 2011

I know for sure that the Snow Leopard hardware test did work by restarting with the D key held down - but some where in Apples updates - it no longer works - the help on the mac says 'If your computer does not restart to Apple Hardware Test restart it using the DVD or USB flash drive that contains the Apple Hardware test' No clue what they mean - is it one of the dvd's that came with the mac - or a DVD that came with Snow Leopard?

My mid summer 2008 mac pro came with Leopard installed - and I did upgrade it to Snow Leopard.
